Locats, 50 Km from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of
Kerala. The Beach has another name papanasam Beach. An important pilgrimage center of Hindu's. The devotees perform “Vavubali”, a ritual for the ancestors souls to rest in peace, on the new moon day of the
Malayalam month Karkadakam.
The beach is surrounded by high rocky cliffs and coconut groves. There are
two main cliffs gives added attraction to Varkala tourism. The cliffs are steep and rugged and
are made of red brown stone. Visitors can engage in swimming, sunbathin, water sports like scuba diving, wind surfing etc.
Sree Janardhana Swamy Temple is located here in Varkala, dedicated to Lord Ayyappa and Hanuman.
