Highlights:

Kollam was the epicenter of trade in Ancient times.  Kollam backwaters are famous for its variety fishes, coconuts and cashew nuts. Kollam is located on the banks of the Ashtamudi Lake, the Lake includes eight streams that covers a major portion of Kollam. The amazing sights of canals, blooming water rays, the natural songs of birds all adds to Kollam Backwater
The backwater tour from Kollam to Alappuzha is the longest cruise in Kerala. This boat ride from Kollam to Alappuzha takes 8 hours and is a delightful ride. The famous "Cheenavala" or Chinese fishing nets can also be seen along the backwaters. 
 
Sasthamkotta fresh water lake: Sasthamkotta is situated on the banks of Kallada River, 26 kilometers from the Kollam city. The holy temple with Lord Shasta's deity is located here. The temple of Dharmasastha dedicated to Lord Ayappa is located here.

Thirumullavaram beach: Thirumullavaram beach is located in the heart of the city and makes a major tourist spot. Also you can capture, Mahavishnu Temple, believed to have been blessed by Parasurama, the legendary creator of Kerala.
Subramanya temple: The Subramanya temple is located at Mayanad, 10 Km from Kollam. It is the most important of the nine temples located here. 
The 144 ft. Thangassery Light house, built in 1902, is a centre of attraction in Kollam.
Rameshwara temple: The temple echoes a Pandyan influence and is decorated with Tamil inscriptions between the 12th and 16th centuries. The Vyala monster sculptures make you feel that the creatures in the temple are living beings.
Ashtamudi Lake: Kollam stands along Ashtamudi Lake and is a major attraction for its elegance and architectural beauty. Tourists can stay here at economical rates.
Ananda Valleeswaram Temple: The Ananda Valleeswaram Temple of Kollam attracts people on almost all days. There are several Churches and Mosques around Kollam. The Pullichira Church was established in 1700 A.D. Mahatma Gandhi beach & park at Kochupilamoodu, Thirumullavaram beach and Ashramam picnic village, are some of the important spots of local sight seeing.
