Shimla was the Summer capital of India under British rule . Presently, it is the state capital of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla is often referred to as the "Queen of Hills. The city is named after the goddess Shyamala Devi, an incarnation of the Hindu Goddess Kali.

Christ Church at the Ridge is the second oldest church in northern India constructed in 1846-1857.
Dorje Drag Monastery is a major tourist destination in Shimla. The mesmerizing monastery stands gloriously and shines with its holistic features of Tibetan Almighty.
The Kali Bari Temple, one of the ancient temples of the city, was built in 1845.

Jakhoo Hill, located at a distance of 1 Km from the Ridge and is 8,000 feet above sea level. The highest peak of Shimla provides a beautiful view of the city with sunrise, sunset, the valleys of evergreens and snow-covered Himalayan ranges.
The Palace of Maharaja Patiala is positioned in the midst of Himalayan Pines at an altitude of 2,250 metres at Chail. The palace was constructed by the Maharaja of Patiala in 1891
